EMILY MEYERS, Executive Director
In addition to leading Meaningful Media, Emily is also President of Eyes of the World Media Group
, which specializes in producing socially-relevant media. She has produced and directed projects for organizations such as the United Nations, National Institute on Drug Abuse, the State of California, UCLA and PBS. Before starting Meaningful Media and Eyes of the World, Emily worked as a strategic consultant for Fortune 100 companies. She has an MBA from Indiana University and is now part of the Producers Program at UCLA.
MARISA MURGATROYD, Director of Programs & Communications
Marisa has worked in production and distribution of independent documentary films, in addition to freelancing in photography and design. She was instrumental in coordinating outreach for The New Los Angeles documentary, supervising post-production on Holy Image, Hallowed Ground: Icons from Sinai for the J. Paul Getty Museum and developing film and internet projects for Common Ground Media. Currently she is producing and directing the Meth Inside Out educational video series. Her work has won awards and prizes from many organizations, including the Telly Awards, National Foundation for Advancement of the Arts, Graphic Design USA and the Faulkner Society. Marisa received a Masters in Communication Art and Design from the Royal College of Art (UK), and a Bachelors from Brown University.
ANJAY NAGPAL, Director of Business Development
After graduating from the University of Illinois with a degree in Finance, Anjay spent six years as a senior derivatives trader in Chicago. During this time he spent his evenings taking film school courses at Columbia College Chicago. Anjay then moved to Los Angeles to attend the UCLA Anderson School of Business and Producers Program to merge his finance background with his love of film with the goal to finance and produce socially relevant films. While at UCLA, Anjay worked at Participant Productions, New Line Cinema and Relativity Media. A diverse background including travel to 35 countries has given Anjay a unique perspective on the world. As a result, he feels a duty to make it better by harnessing the power of media to affect positive change.
AINSLEY BREAULT, Development/Fundraising Associate
Ainsley Breault is originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado. After graduating from the University of Southern California in 2008, she spent a year in New Zealand creating a documentary on Maori popular music through an mtvU-Fulbright fellowship. Ainsley has completed internships with Outlaw Productions, Anonymous Content, GenArt Los Angeles, and Disney Consumer Products, and is currently working in development at the University of Southern California.
MICHAEL BOURNE, Illustrator/Graphic Designer
Michael Bourne graduated in 2008 from Otis College of Art & Design with a degree in Digital Media focusing on Visual Development. Since then, he has been working as a freelance illustrator/graphic designer. He has worked on a variety of creative projects with clientele including Disney’s Baby Einstein branch, EA Sports, and Girl360. He also utilizes his traditional fine art skills by painting promotional theatrical murals for Regal Entertainment Group theaters. With an interest in social and environmental wellness, he contributes his illustration and design skills to Meaningful Media. His other interests include traveling, astronomy, running, and continually learning new and interesting things.
JAMIE BULLOCK, Nonprofit Partnership Coordinator
Jamie Bullock has produced documentaries, TV, web content, music videos and commercials for award winning production companies. In 2004 Jamie launched her own production company and her first feature was released theatrically, and is now available on DVD and is in development with FOX to become a TV series. Recently, the short film she produced, Help Wanted, won 3 of the top honors at the Elevate Film Festival. Jamie now serves as Lead Producer for Mingling Media, a production and online marketing company with several Web Series, TV Shows and Feature Films in development.
TARA FINGLAS, Research/Writing Correspondent
Tara Finglas is from Dublin, Ireland. She spent the last year working as a Communications Officer with UNICEF in Malawi as part of the United Nations Volunteer program. She worked on behavior change public information campaigns for health and nutrition in the UNICEF Communication for Development (C4D) unit. Tara has worked and volunteered with the European Movement Ireland, IrishAid, Health and Development Networks, Special Olympics Ireland and the South African Red Cross.
FRANKIE K. FOSTER, Research/Writing Correspondent
Frankie K. Foster moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of working in animation when she retired from her job with IBM/New York Wall Street. She helped launch an animation website (AWN) and was a journalist and marketing director for Animation Magazine. She has mentored for WriteGirl, a non-profit that reaches out to high school age girls through the power of the pen.
JEAN DALE GLASS, LA Chapter Leader
Jean is the Executive Director of 8.0 Entertainment Group, whose motto is to produce televisions shows and films that make a difference. Jean began production with Floyd Mutrux, and worked with him intermittently for the past twenty years, running the production office of There Goes My Baby while he also Executive Produced Dick Tracy, and most recently during his development of Tony Award-nominated Million Dollar Quartet. In the past few years, Jean has worked with Cass Warner promoting her feature doc, The Brothers Warner. For 20 years Jean has developed young talent, producing the group she created, Kids on Stage for a Better World.
MAY LUGEMWA, Film/TV/New Media Advocate
From the rural village of Masaka, Uganda to graduating magna cum laude from Harvard. May Lugemwa is a filmmaker, scholar, and mentor passionate about media, and producing films of substance on pressing issues. Her award-winning documentary Former Nationality screened at festivals worldwide. She is currently producing a video series for the Ron Brown Scholar Program. While getting her MFA in the Producers Program at UCLA, she was a reporter for Daily Bruin TV and a recipient of the Sony-Streisand Fellowship.
JESSIE MIZRAHI, Development/Funding Associate
Jessie Mizrahi is a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Radio, TV, and Film. After leaving Wisconsin, Jessie spent the summer traveling through Israel and volunteering on an organic farm. Since returning home, she spent the past six months working on a documentary film exploring biodiesel fuel, volunteering for the UCLA Hillel development department, and helping to form the Meaningful Media Leadership Corps.
LAURA RIDLEHOOVER, Social Media/Marketing Strategist
Laura Ridlehoover is originally from Los Angeles. After graduating from UC Berkeley in 2006 with a degree in Political Economy, she joined Google Inc. where she currently works in global advertising and marketing. After taking an assignment in India with Google in the summer of 2009, Laura was inspired by what socially conscious business firms can contribute to emerging markets. She has decided to pursue an MBA and focus on social enterprise, specifically in the media and technology space. She will attend Columbia University in New York in the fall. In her free time Laura loves to travel, explore the outdoors, paint, attend concerts, and of course, discover new media.
AMBER ANGEL WEISS, Social Media/Marketing Strategist
Amber Angel Weiss is a Southern California native. She recently graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in English/creative writing from California State University Long Beach. During her senior year she interned for a boutique PR, marketing & event company where she created and developed the social media marketing branch for a nationwide fashion event brand, gaining the attention of major corporate sponsors. She is creator and contributor of the social media marketing campaign for Meaningful Media. She is a writer, artist and passionate organic gardener.
