VISION

We believe in the transformative power of media.

How are we different?

Meaningful Media has a unique combination of working principles and long-term goals.

1. Taking a collaborative, multi-media approach.
Meaningful Media embraces all media types and encourages creatives from across the spectrum to work together. There are no boundaries for complex social issues like global warming, poverty and racism, and we shouldn't limit these issues to one story told through one media type. By pooling talent, we can increase the power and reach of meaningful media. We believe that cooperation and collaboration makes re-envisioning and transforming the world through media possible.

2. Growing the audience for meaningful media.
By growing our network, we can connect with more and more people who are committed to producing and/or consuming meaningful media. It is our goal to foster a critical mass of people that can create the demand necessary to change the market. If the major media distributors see a hunger for meaningful content, they'll supply more to meet the demand. Currently, the vast majority of meaningful media is only seen by niche audiences, if it is seen at all. Yet we believe the best meaningful media has the potential to cross over to a mainstream audience through effective marketing.

3. Mainstreaming meaningful media.
This is a natural outcome of #2. Creating meaningful media is just the beginning. The next step is mainstreaming meaningful media through established distribution channels where it can reach the maximum number of hearts and minds. While we wholeheartedly embrace self-distribution and community outreach through media, we believe it is also necessary to aim wider if we're going to create real change. We are forming partnerships with networks, studios, internet companies, museums and governmental agencies to facilitate the creation, promotion and distribution of socially-oriented media. Our ultimate goal is for meaningful media to become the norm rather than the exception.

4. Raising the bar for meaningful media.
We believe in creating meaningful media with high production values and wide appeal. For it to be successful, meaningful media has to hold its own in a mainstream cultural landscape dominated by advertising and entertainment. Good intentions don't always make good media, and we want to empower and inspire our members to continually raise the bar for meaningful media in both form and content.

Why are we needed?

Media is a uniquely powerful force in our time. Media frames the debate and shapes what we talk, think and dream about. It influences our actions and the way we live our lives.

We need to consciously and actively harness this power towards social change, to reclaim and redirect media towards things that matter. We need to prove that meaningful media is hip, dynamic, entertaining and profitable. It's the thing to do on a Friday night or a Sunday morning. And it's for all of us, not just the tree huggers or do gooders. Creating and consuming meaningful media enriches and deepens our lives. You are what you watch. hear. say. think. believe. dream. do.

By now you've probably guessed that we are boldly ambitious about transforming the way media is produced, distributed and consumed. You're right. Now join us.
